چکیده

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is one of the most common primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, whose early stages, especially patch stage poses a diagnostic challenge, as it presents quite similarly to other inflammatory skin diseases and chronic dermatoses. We present a case of a 31-year-old young male presented to us with complaints of generalized hyperpigmentation associated with mild itching since 4 years. On examination, generalized well-demarcated hyperpigmented poikilodermatous patches with focal atrophy were noted. The poikiloderma was more pronounced over the arms and legs. Dermoscopy of these patches displayed multiple well-demarcated irregular accentuation of pigment network with criss-cross white streaked (loss of pigment network) zones with microscaling, telangiectasia (reddish smudges), and black dots. Histopathology showed interface dermatitis, epidermotropism of atypical lymphocytes, and tagging of lymphocytes along the basement membrane and Pautrier’s microabscesses. These findings confirmed the diagnosis of poikilodermatous MF. This is the first report of findings of Poikilodermatous MF in pigmented skin. Thus, dermoscopy being a non-invasive tool with specific characteristics, may assume an supplementary role in the diagnosis of poikilodermatous MF.

Hyperpigmentation as a peculiar presentation of mycosis fungoides*

Hyperpigmented mycosis fungoides is an extremely rare subtype of mycosis fungoides. It presents as multiple pigmented macules and patches without poikilodermatous changes and characterized by a CD8+ phenotype on immunohistochemistry. This report describes a typical case of hyperpigmented mycosis fungoides in a 62-year-old woman, who presented with a 7-year history of multiple hyperpigmented mac...

Hyperpigmented mycosis fungoides: a rare variant

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common type of cutaneous Tcell lymphoma. The diagnosis of classic MF is based on a combination of clinical presentation, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and T-cell monoclonality detected by molecular studies. However, the diagnosis can be difficult in some cases. We report a case of hyperpigmented mycosis fungoides. A 60-year-old woman, phototype IV, pre...

Poikiloderma Vasculare Atrophicans Showing Features of Ashy Dermatosis in the Beginning

Poikiloderma vasculare atrophicans (PVA) is a rare poikilodermatous variant of early-stage mycosis fungoides characterized by generalized poikiloderma, atrophy, mottled dyspigmentation, and telangiectasia. In 2001, a 14-year-old male presented with asymptomatic brownish-gray polymorphic macules throughout the body with flexural accentuation. A skin biopsy showed increased melanophages with foca...

Evaluation of Variant Lymphocyte Count in Peripheral Blood Smear of Patients with Mycosis Fungoides and Its Comparison with the Normal Population

Background and Objective: Mycosis fungoides is a neoplastic skin disorder whose underlying cause is not yet fully understood. There are hypotheses about the possible effect of viral agents on the development of mycosis fungoids that have not yet been proven. The present study aimed to evaluate the lymphocyte variant in peripheral blood smear of patients with mycosis fungoides fungoids to determ...
